- About us
Futebol Clube Famalicão was founded in 1931 and belongs to Vila Nova de Famalicão. José Alves Marinho, Floriano Portela, Hildebrando Portela, Luis Pinto, Joaquim Mesquita Jr. and Vergílio Pinto de Azevedo founded the Club. Green and White were the colours of the 1st kit.
Over time, FC Famalicão grew, winning several titles and moving up various levels in Portuguese football. In 1938, the club started using blue and white as its kit and continued its ascent, reaching the top league of national football in 1945/1946, a historic season in which it finished in 1st position in the 2nd national division with a record of 88 goals scored and 5 conceded. Promotion was sealed with a 3-2 victory against Boavista FC, in a match played in Póvoa de Varzim, on June 30, 1946.
In 1948, the construction of Campo dos Bargos began, where the Municipal stadium is located today. Futebol Clube Famalicão played at Campo de Freião, with the change to today's venue occurring on September 21, 1952.
In 1977/78, Futebol Clube Famalicão once again moved up to the top tier of Portuguese football, being relegated the following year. In 1989, it returned to the top tier where it remained until 1994.
Over the past few years, the club has experienced ups and downs, with notable performances in the Portuguese Cup and playing in professional championships.
The club is known for filling stadiums, for its fervent fanbase, and for a passion that is difficult to explain. "This is Famalicão"
